When Early AAs Were Cured and Why, Third Edition
When Early AAs Were Cured and Why Third Edition Author:Dick B. Many in A.A. and other12 Step Fellowships are in real doubt as to whether they can be cured of their affliction or whether they are to languish "in recovery" or simply hanging on to a "daily reprieve" instead of the actual cure of alcoholism by the power of God which was the regular and widely proclaimed experience of early A.A. pioneers in Akro... more »n. This book documents and puts to rest the reliable conclusion that alcoholism can be cured. It was cured in 1935. It was cured for a decade after A.A. was founded. American newspapers by the hundreds proclaimed the cures. And always the cure was attributed to the Creator--the power of God. How was it accomplished? You will learn from this book exactly what the original Akron program looked like--abstinence, hospitalization for a few days, fellowship in the homes of believers, once a week meetings, regular Bible study and prayer, use of devotionals, topical discussions of Bible subjects, a "real surrender" ceremony where each newcomer was taken upstairs, asked to get on his knees, joined by two or three oldtimers (after the manner of James 5:16), led to accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, led to pray that alcohol be taken out of his life, and led to ask that he be guided and strengthened in his Christian walk. Finally, newcomers joined Dr. Bob with regular visits to the next group of new people at the hospital. The program was specifically summarized by A.A. trustee-to-be Frank Amos for John D. Rockefeller, Jr. and thus specifically identified for all who care to learn the details. There is hardly a detail about the highly successful early program and its cures that is not covered in this new book. It can be used, in conjunction with Dick's The James Club and his Good Book-Big Book Guidebook to lead classes and help people study and be healed.« less
