Because they will announce your sins to everyone if you piss them off!

This to me is both humerous and sad.

Very disgusting.  What's even more so is that there are probably other churches that do similar things.

Wow.  Just wow.

"They said it's written in the Bible to punish sinners who continue to sin."..???

That's not what my Bible or my God says.  Quite the opposite actually.  Not sure how they came to that conclusion.  Very sad.

Edited to add that my church is totally against that kind of thinking.  We have all kinds of people who come, and they aren't condemed at all.  In fact, we're just glad that they are there seeking God.  Sins are between a person and God...there is no reason for the whole congregation to be informed of anothers sins simply to humiliate them.  They should be ashamed. (The church, I mean)

The part I found humerous is that it is published in the newpaper that she is "living in sin" with her boyfriend and now national, yet she doens't want it announced in church and is leaving the church.

*chuckles*

Even more hilarious to me, I totally see nothing wrong with what she is doing.  I would sit in church pleased as punch and wave to everyone while they chastised me.  But I like to have fun like that once in a while.  :)

Yup not the first time wont be the last time that something like this has happened. If you have heard about my leaving the church my story is about the same preacher.

A girl in that church (after I had left the story was relayed to me by my BFF who still went there) got pregnant when she wasnt married. The preacher told her she could either stand in front of the church and apologize for her AND her baby or be taken off of the church roll and not be welcome. When she refused to apologize for her baby she was unceremoniously ... uninvited (dunno what the word would be Im thinking excommunicated but its a baptist church)

Who on earth would want to be this type of Christian in the first place?  Sheesh, just another reason for me to be happy I don't attend the Baptist church any more.

It amazes me how some churches seem to overlook the part of the Bible where Christ said "Judge not lest you be judged." It reminds of when I attended a Baptist school. There were two students dating and to make a long story short, she ended up pregnant, they both got expelled. A few years later the school folded when it was discovered that some of the staff and board were guilty of adultery.Hypocrisy at it's finest!

She was a member of the church and broke the rules. I can't say that the church handled it perfectly, I just don't know. But if she's going to renege on her committment wouldn't it be incumbant on her to turn in her membership before making a stink about this?

Doesn't the church have the right to alert other members that one of the people they've been fellowshipping with has now gone the other way? Would letting members know be as bad as this has become, being in the papers, now that she's raised the issue?

I'm not saying the church is right in this particular situation, but I tend to think it is. I would have to be there to judge attutudes. Some situations need a softer touch, some not. But if you're saying that sin should be ignored, I disagree.

Paul, if any church thinks that only a few of their members have "sins" that need to be pointed out, they need to think again.  Heck, almost any church will tell you on Sunday that every person in it is a sinner.  A church that expects perfection from people is not a church, but closer to a cult, if you ask me.

And people wonder why I would rather eat a bug than step foot in a church....

yes everyone is a sinner, but a good idea would be to read 1st Peter.  www.marshillchurch.org under sermons, the trial series has different sermons on authority.  :-)

Good grief!  Any church that insists on announcing the names of folks who are having sex w/o being married to each other will have no time in their services for anything else!!  :-)

This is disgusting and hilarious and downright ridiculous!!!  Sounds like they are picking and choosing which Bible verses to follow and ignoring the teachings that don't fit into their cult teachings.  I'm a Baptist and this is NOT Biblical nor is it taught in most Baptist churches.  We teach love & forgiveness according to the example set and taught by our Lord & Savior Jesus.

Ah yes, once again another church that likes to lead with fear instead of love & understanding.  What a piss poor example of a christian church, imo.
