I know that media mail rates are going up soon. Does anyone know when and how much they will be?

Can anyone post a chart with all the new postal rates effective 5-12-08?  So far, all I know is, FCM letter 1 oz is going up 1 cent to .42, 2 oz. reg. FCM to .59, and 1 lb. Media Mail going up .10 to $2.23.

What I need is a chart of  1st class mail, let's say 1 through 7 oz., Retail Parcel rates 1 to 13 oz., and Media Mail 1-10 lbs.  That would cover most of what I send.  On the USPS website, they give millions of charts and stuff but I can't seem to find what I need.  Can anyone help?

Thanks,

Marianna

Parcels - start at $1.17 and add $.17 per ounce up to 13 ounces

1 ounce = $1.17,  2 = $1.34,  3 = $1.51, 4 = $1.68, 5 =$1.85, 6 = $2.02, 7 = $2.19

Media will be $2.23 up to 1 pound, $2.58 up to 2, $2.93 up to 3, $3.28 up to 4, $3.63 up to 5, $3.98 up to 6, $4.33 up to 7, $4.68 up to 8, $5.03 up to 9 and $5.38 up to 10.

For the first class, do you mean letters? Letters only go up to 3.5 ounces and then use the large envelope rates unless it is thicker than 3/4 inch or rigid or lumpy then it is a parcel.

Letters .are 1 ounce = $.42, 2 = .$59, 3 = $.76, 3.5 = $.93

Hope that helps!

Thanks for the info Patti!  You answered every one of my questions.  I also occasionally send CDs through SwapaCD.com, and they used to go for the 2 oz. non-machineable rate of .75 cents. (.58 for the 2 oz, plus .17 to be hand cancelled;) had to be no thicker than 1/4 inch.  Do you happen to know if this rate is going up?  I would think only the .01 cent like first class mail, 2 oz will now be .59.  + .17 making it .76.  Well I hope that is right.

Anyway, thanks so much for your prompt and informative answer!  I have copied down all the new rates to have them ready to go on May 12th.

They are changing the non-machinable charge to $.20. This applies to non-rectangular, rigid or lumpy items that are less than 6 1/8 inch by 11 1/2 inch and less than 1/4 inch thick.

Marianna, using your example, It would be .59 plus .20 for a total of .79 cents.

ARGH.  I dropped a book into a mailbox on Sunday with $2.13 postage for Media Mail and it was returned today due to insufficient postage.  Aren't mailboxes considered "USPS property" so that since they were mailed on Sunday the old rate should have applied?

The blue boxes around me have always been reposted to the next day on anything dropped off after the last pickup time on the box. If the next pickup time was after the rate change, it doesn't suprise me that they expected it to be posted at the new rates.

I understand what you are saying but I was under a potentially mistaken assumption that since the package was in a USPS owned location that the rate when it was dropped off would be the one it should get mailed under.

i just assumed that if i didn't get it mailed by the last pickup on saturday, it'd have to go at the new rate.  i got one last book out in a hurry on saturday before the rates went up.

ETA: OMG!  i have no idea why it posted a zillion copies of my message.  sheesh.
