I joined last week and posted 131 books right away.  When do I get my new member credits?  I PM'd my Tour Guide and another Help person, but not getting much - Tour Guide responded to ask if I got them yet and I've not heard from her since.  The other "help" librarian still has not responded and it's been several days.

I am ready to send out my first book and wish I could order one for myself off my Wish List.  This is a very frustrating beginning to my PBS experience - is it always this hard to get answers?  How long to get your new member credits?

thanks,

Alexis

Alexis, you should get them right away.  Unless someone else in your household/address has an account already.  If they do, then you won't get any free credits, it's one per address/household.

You should have received them within a few hours of posting your first 10 books.  When I want help & not just information, I click on

Contact Us (bottom of the screen under company) - Then click on the "send us feedback" button

ETA:  good point Sarah, I forgot about the rule of only 2 startup credits per household

well, I do live with my Mom ... do I really get penalized for that?   I was really looking forward to having my OWN PBS account instead of tagging on to hers!  this sucks.

If your Mom has a PBS account as well, then you won't get 2 startup credits.  If you've got books already requested, get them sent out ASAP and you'll have credits in no time.

As long as there is only 1 other account in your household, you can have an account.  You won't get the 2 free credits, though.

From the PBS Help Center:

  • The limit is 2 accounts per household or address
  • Both of these accounts must be held by adults
  • Both of these accounts must be opened and managed by a different person
  • Each account must be managed by the member whose name is on the account.
  • All of this information is available in the PBS Terms of Use

Sorry its taken a couple days for you to get help from the Live Help/TGs. I bet it is because you joined right on a holiday weekend and all of those people are just other members that volunteer their time to help so they may have things going on. Usually they are very quick to help anyway they can.

Since your mom got the start up credits for your household, maybe you can convince her to share a credit or two :-) Its not really a penalty that only one person in the household gets the credits, they just have to limit it so that they don't get someone setting up a whole bunch of accounts and saying its a family member just to get more free credits.

    Welcome and Happy Swapping!

I just looked at your shelf and it seems that most, it not all, of the books are children's books.  I'd suggest posting a deal (3-for-1 or 4-for-1) in Book Bazaar to possibly get some credits quickly.  I think that's the best way to unload non-WL children's books.

My daughter lives with me and we both have a PBS account and I got the 2 credits.  Come to think of it, I'm pretty sure she didn't get start up credits......but I'm not worried-sh has a boat load of credits!

thanks, I get it now.  I posted my children's books first thinking they'd get requested quicker - I need to get busy and post the rest now!

I thought the same thing when I joined about the children's books. But most people don't want to pay a full credit for them unless it's a WL book. Those are usually the more expensive hardback ones.  I guess it's like those little series romances-you can find them everywhere for cheap so people don't want to pay a full credit for one.  The only ones that I had that were WL were the more expensive educational ones that could be used for homeschooling.

    Alexis,

Someone just posted on the Book Bazaar forum looking for children's books. Go over there and look at her post.

    Good luck!
