We were being promised an unlimited with list, and now it seems to have totally fallen off the radar. I have a lot of books I want, and am upset that I can't even be waiting in line for a book because I want more than the limit. I home school, live in a rural area, and haven't found a used bookstore with in a four hour drive of my home. I buy when when I can.

Is it ever going to happen, or were the promises a bunch of hot air?

It's been in the works for a while and is most likely a huge undertaking for the PBS team.  There are many topics posted in the forums regarding the proposed new wishlist.  Some pro and some con.  Search keyword "wishlist" on the Search All Forums page.  Here's what the PBS Team says about it : http://www.paperbackswap.com/misc/whats_new.php#coming_soon__the_new_wish_list

Yes, I think as with many other things about PBS we have to exercise patience and understanding when it comes to the development of the unlimited wishlist.  Unless you have tried computer programming you do not realize the huge undertaking this is and the many potential problems that can arise in the development and execution of such a thing.

With all the complaints about the upcoming new WL adn RL changes-my guess is they want to make sure they have it right before they implement it to avoid a lot of glitches and more complaints.

Mary, thanks for the link. I like the new changes it'll bring and like everything else it'll take a little getting used to. I know PBS will do a great job on it like everything else they do!

I am hoping the unlimited wish list never happens.  As far as I know, it is possible to have an unlimited reminder list and it is easy to quickly scan if any books on your reminder list is available.

Yes, but if there is a steady stream of wishers for a book, it will never show as available on the reminder list, and the reminder list gives no clues as to which books have wishers, so it is difficult to judge which books most need to be moved over to the wishlist as slots open up.

It would be nice if the reminder list had an "autorequest" option that would automatically order an item once there were no more wishers for an item and it became available.

Hey Bret, if the books on your Reminder List have a Order button, they are available.  If they have a Buy It Now button, they need to be put on your wishlist.  :)

I can understand people wanting an unlimited wish list; however, if that change is made, it also requires the whole ranking books thing. I'm trying to get rid of some of DVDs on swapadvd and those credits I'm transferring over here because I don't like the whole trying to figure out how to rank a DVD to optimize my chances of getting it. If I had to choose between having an unlimited wishlist and ranking, or a limited wishlist and not ranking, I'd take the limited and not ranking.

If I get up at 200 on my wishlist and I'm the only wisher for a book, I usually will slide some of those over to make room for some others and then just keep an eye on my reminder list to see if a 1 appears behind it sometime.

I've also found that I've been able to get quite a number of books I had wishlisted by looking for other ISBNs for them or finding them in a different binding. I rarely have books that I want as keepers so that's not a big deal for me to have a specific ISBN.

I am not looking forward to the new wishlist.  I have wishlisted a lot of books by looking up the isbn's on Amazon, and I am not looking forward to the new change at all.

And also keep in mind that when this happens everyone will have the ability to wishlist more books... Which of course means Much longer wishlist lines. And let's face it, you'll end up wish listing more because, why not? So will everyone else. After all, the longer it's on your list the more "points" it's racking up, even if it's ranked at the bottom. It's still some points right. So a lot of people will think, "I might as well wishlist every book I might want just so that I'll have some ranking points".

So you may be able to wishlist more books... but instead of waiting in a 200 person WL line... you'll be in a 500 person WL line. So It will take you longer to get those books you've wishlisted, even though you can wishlist more. And the books that already have 5-800 wishlisters... I shudder to think what those lines will be after this.

But hey... you want it. I just hope you're being careful about what you "wish" for. You just might get it.

See, I'd understand the programing issue if they hadn't already done it on both Swap a DVD and Swap a CD. I do look over my Reminder List several times a day hoping that abook will pop up, but they rarely do. When they do, I jump. The books on my Wish and Reminder lists are only books I *really* want.

I had just joined when they reduced the wishlist to 200 seems like. I actually like it this way..it makes me think about what I really want on there. I"ve also gone through and moved a lot to my RL or bought new depending on where I was in line and if I really really wanted the book. The only exceptions I can see are when  you have 10 spots taken up for one title that has different isbn's/editions or have a lot of stuff where there aren't a lot of wishers.

what I would like though is to be able to bump myself down a spot when I'm in the number 1 spot and I'm not ready..sometimes I've been 1 out of 50 and I wouldn't have minded waiting for the 2nd or 3rd copy to come along but didn't want to cancel and end up #51..

For those who are having a tough time getting certain books, do various searches for them because sometimes books "hide".  I've found books on PBS that were wanted and had a WL, but because it was categorized under the middle or first intial of the author's name - it didn't show up anywhere else.

I'm not enamored of the WL changes.  I have a gluttony for books and if it can be wished for I'll do it.  200 is big enough.  I'm not going to spend time ranking books when I could be reading or talking on a message board!! ;D

ETA- -I really need the RL because where will I find out how many books there are of books I MIGHT be interested in?   It would be another whole huge programming feature that would have to be added to the system to list how many were available in each version or ISBN.
