I found my library has quite a few audio CD versions of the "The First North Americans" series by Michael and Kathleen Gear. I suppose there are better books of this genre but I'm into listening vs reading latey so I decided to try this series first.

I'm not sure which book to start with though. Is the first published book actually the one to read first?

I think the first written is "The People of the Wolf". Is this one the best to start with?

http://www.amazon.com/People-Wolf-First-North-Americans/dp/076536445X/ref=sr_1_7?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1375130405&sr=1-7

I found this listing of the possible time frames of the various titles:

1. People of the Wolf is the earliest time in history [approx. 13,000 BC]
2. People of the Nightland [approx. 12,000 B.C.]
3. People of the Sea [approx. 11,000-10,000 B.C.]
4. People of the Raven [approx. 9,000-8,000 B.C.]
5. People of the Lightning [approx. 7,300 B.C.]
6. People of the Fire [approx. 7,200-7,000 B.C.]
7. People of the Earth [approx. 3,000 B.C.]
8. People of the Owl [approx. 2,000 B.C.]
9. People of the Lakes [approx. 1,000 B.C.]
10. People of the Masks [approx. 500-600 A.D.] (Iroquois/5 Civilized Nations ancestors)
11. People of the River [approx. 650 A.D.]
12. People of the Silence [approx. 600 A.D.]
13. People of the Weeping Eye-Pt.1 [approx. 750-800 A.D.]
14. People of the Thunder-Pt.2 [approx. 750-800 A.D.]
15. People of the Moon [approx. 900-1000 A.D.]
16. People of the Mist [approx. 1000 A.D.]

Thanks

I haven't read this series although it is on my list. I'd like to know what you think.

I have a few of them on my shelf and have been wanting to start them. I believe they are numbered in the series. I have People of the Wolf as the first one, I believe.

Yeah. People of the Wolf is the first one....and the one I have the CD's now to listen too,

The cd's are unabridged but apparantly have many different 'readers'. It's a reinactment with sound effects etc.

I'll report back once I get through a few cd's I want to finish another CD set first. I'm trying to not read so many books at the same time.

My hubby reads these and says order doesn't matter except for those that are in several parts (if that makes sense).  But I can see where reading them in order would give one a better sense of historical progress through the ages.

Thanks.

I started listening and I'm about halfway through the first CD. I'm thinking the sound effects are somewhat overdone and too loud. Especially when a woman was giving birth. Yikes, that was terrible to listen to.
