This is the last Laura Moriarty book that I will read. While I enjoyed her first book, her second, "The Rest of Her Life" was just plain boring. This book fared no better. I'm not sure how the subject of divorce can be made so uninteresting, but by the time I'd reached about page 50, I was skipping pages and trying not to fall asleep. Sorry, there are just too many books in my TBR pile to waste time on the dull and unrewarding.

This book almost put me to sleep. I was hoping for a better story line to keep my interest. Although I finished the book, I wouldn't recommend wasting your time to read it like I did.

I wanted to like this book -- but if i'm being honest, I've been reading it on and off throughout the last month. I never take that long to read a book. So in fairness to the author, it's not the writing. I will say it's somewhat of a downer more than uplifting. I will also say that I'm a mom with a daughter in sophomore year of college. Instead of 'speaking to me', I honestly became bored with it. All that said, I'll re-post for someone else to try their hand at it. Happy reading!

Eccentric characters, life-altering events, and brave decisions are the cornerstones of this captivating novel. Moriarty writes with extraordinary empathy for her lovingly rendered characters. You will cheer for Veronica and her mother even in the midst of a long series of disappointments, poor decisions, and bad luck. Be prepared to smile, cry, sigh, and identify with the characters of this compelling novel while they negotiate their way through some hard but important life lessons.

I say this could make a great movie because as I read it I could see different characters almost vividly as to how they would play out on screen. I only gave it 3 stars instead of 5. The reason for that is that maybe there could have been a little more story for some of the other characters in this book.

The book is about a family going through change. Mother, Father, two grown daughters, one in college, one married.
When the youngest daughter, a sophomore in college, learns that her parents are divorcing and it causes her to now stand on her own two feet financially and emotionally. Most of the book is written from her point of view, her life and her struggles. The other point of view heard from is that of the mother.

What I found enjoyable about this story (and lets face it, it's a story told over and over) is that it gave a fresh and funny look at very real problems and possible scenarios and even solutions. It was by no means deep and profound but it worked and I like it. I loved these characters. It made me laugh and yes it even brought a tear to my eye.
