Anyone else read this yet? I got it from the library about a month ago and finally started it. I've renewed it three times now - I've got 10 days to finish it before it has to go back.
Not sure if I like it or not - I'm a bit confused, but that could be that the history is confusing. I thought it started out slow and boring, but it's picked up a little, but I'm not feeling like I have to stay up all night to finish. Would love to know what others thought of it.
Oh - and hi again. Yes, I've been MIA. Real life got crazy and I don't come around here much any more - usually I scan a few threads and don't reply unless I have something new to say. |

I was pretty underwhelmed with this. We could argue on and on about her take on the history and whether she's accurate or she's entitled to diddle with history as its just a novel, but my biggest issues were the writing. It was sooooo mediocre. I did not like the present tense first person narrative, I disliked the repetition (Edward was referred to as a *boy* how many times in 20 pages?), and above all it was rather dull. Outside of whistling up a new storm all Elizabeth did was bed her husband and get pregnant. |

I read it. It was okay not great. I liked some of her other works better. I have read similar historical interpertations for Elizabether and Edward so it is probably not that far off. I got really tired of the phrase "To Bed Wife" Alice |

Thanks for the comments. I'm continuing (almost done) and it's tolerable, but not great. Then, I find most of PG's works take creative liberties with history.
