If only she could belong to the popular crowd...

Joanna Stevens knew she could forget her troubles at home, her father's drinking, her mother's worried face. But she just didn't seem to belong. David Porter liked her, but he as a relgion nut--and God definitely didn't have the answers to her problems!

Then out of the blue, Matt Thompson, the dreamily handsome senior, invited her to Melanie Tillinghast's Halloween party. Melanie seemed to have everthing a girl could want, but it was funny how Matt watched her in that strange, hurt way, as though he loved her and wished he didn't.

On the night of the party, Joanna found the note crumpled in Melanie's wastebasket--the shocking warning--"I don't want to go on...."

When tragedy struck, Joanna discovered that there are some burdens too great to bear alone.
