I have about 200 listed, and I keep them on the top of a cabinet outside my office. Nothing else goes there except posted books, so I always know where those books are.

I have about 1000 more that I want to list, but I don't want to mail them all and end up with all those credits .... so I am waiting before I list more for a while. The only new books than I continue to post are Wish List books, although I am also still sending out regular FIFO orders every week from my bookshelf.

I've seen PBS shelves with a couple thousand books on them, though.

I have only a few posted - but I've seen members with bookshelves with much more than a thousand.  I wouldn't begin to be able to handle that.

I browsed a shelf with 10,000 books on it yesterday.

Wow!  I've seen one with 3000+ books and I thought that was amazing but 10,000....  She must be one organized person to keep up with all those books.

I listed about 140 books when I joined, and have mailed out about 80 of them.  I accumulated a lot of credits fast, but since most of the books I wanted were WL, I was spending a lot on postage without seeing anything back.  Now that some of my WL books are coming in, I'm feeling more secure.  I'd like to keep only 20-30 credits in my account at any one time.  When I drop below that, I'll start posting again.

I have at least 1000 books that I'd like to get rid of, but I couldn't keep track of that many in my account.  The person with 10,000 books listed must have a warehouse.  We have over 6,000 books in our house, and although we have a big house, we seem almost overwhelmed with books at times.  I'm planning to donate a lot of books in the next few months as I try to whittle down our collection to maybe half of what it is now--if I can talk my husband and sons into keeping only their most essential thousand or so books each.

There are quite a few people with bookshelves in the thousands.

We have a few people with Used Bookstores and they list a lot of their books here to earn credits to get WL books for themselves.  They sell the surplus credits to cover postage.

If I listed all the books I didn't want, I think I'd hit the thousand range.  The thought of the space required for multi-thousand makes me shudder.

I only have so much space to sort & list books, so I don't have them all listed.  I also am trying very hard to figure out ways to entice people to spending more than one credit at time so I can cut my shipping costs.

I currently have 263 books posted, and a bunch more that I've set aside to post but haven't gotten around to posting yet.

When I only had 50 or so posted, I just stacked them against the wall, but when it got into the hundreds, I had to organize them or I would spend way too much time just searching for the book somebody ordered. Now I have them arranged alphabetically in a spare chest of drawers; a couple of drawers hold the mass market paperbacks, one holds the kids' books, one holds the trade paperbacks, and so on. It makes things a lot easier. There's a lot more space in there than I would have thought there would be, too; even with over 200 books, it's still not full.

I'd like to put them on a bookshelf, but all the bookshelves in the house are taken up with books to read and books I want to keep!

I never have more than 15-35 posted at one time.  Whenever I post 5 or 10 books (not counting WL books) they seem to get ordered pretty quick and its the same 15 or so that end up sitting there the whole time.

I think the most I ever had was 50.

Personally I don't like looking at a shelf when it has several hundred or more books.  Even with the genre sorting it's still too many to wade through.  Especially on a really slow computer like mine.

I have 257 on mine right now, but it's on hold until the first of the month. I have about 15-20 more that I need to add.

Thank you for all this info and sorting ideas. And 10,000????? WOW WOW WOW. I don't thing I could sit and look through that many. I think with you ladies help I came up with a few ideas to try myself. My grandkids cleared out a small room I had (was my wifes sewing room before she passed) :-( . I liked the dresser drawer idea. So will see what I come up with. This site has been fun and I do have tons of books now but only 200 or so listed. I would like to try a new hobby. LOL and besides I am hunting down books and movies for my homeschooled Godchild. Thanks Ladies.

I keep my shelf under 200 for easy browsing.  I think I'm at about 160 right now.  I too have tons more to post but I'll wait a while more.  I don't want to make my shelf too much to browse, I figure 4 pages is about my limit of browsing someone else's shelf so I keep mine to that many pages as well.

I keep all posted books in a brown paper sack and also an underbed storage box so I know where to go to get what's requested.

My shelf fluctuates between 200 and 225 or so.  I have one floor to ceiling bookcase and a wooden chest dedicated to PBS and books for the troops.  Anymore than 200 or so books and I'd run into 'spillage' into other areas and I wouldn't be able to keep them straight.  The thought of thousands of books boggles my mind and makes me drool in envy, LOL.

I have ranged between 200 and 250 most of the time I have been a member. I keep the paperbacks in paper bags in the closet. I just label the outside with the letters of the authors or the most common authors in the bag. The hardbacks are on the top shelf of the bookcase in my daughter's room. When they are older (and taller) I will need to find another place to put them. I keep thinking I will get rid of some of the books that have not been ordered but books I did not expect to be requested have been while books I expected to be wish listed were not. I do not appear to be a good judge of what will be ordered.

The largest shelf I know of right now is MIKE M. (middnight123) , with 3,267

(Found by looking at who had the most books among the BOB traders in the most common category - general fiction).

I'm lucky if I have 30 on my shelf.   It seems to hover around 28 most of the time.  I couldn't begin to handle hundreds of books on my shelf.  Just sorting through my TBR is difficult enough.

Oh yes, books for trading are kept separate, otherwise it would be a nightmare!  I'm lucky enough to have a small spare room (although I have so much "spare" stuff that it's always packed full!)  I have the books separated by format (HC, MM PB, and Trade PB) just because they stack nicely by size.  Then they are roughly alphabetized (A-E, F-I, etc.)  I can find anything easily this way, but I only have between 200 and 300 books on my bookshelf at any time.  If I had a few thousand books I'd need a separate spare room full of bookcases devoted only to trading.  I must admit though, that sounds like fun!

I have a TBR over 600.  I bought some under the be shoe holders that zip up.  I can store 58 mass market paperbacks in them.  They slide right under my bed. I filled it by my computer and had my TBR pile open.  So  I used the Note feature to type in Bag so I know which books are under there.  I loaded them by genre/author for the most part.  One bag for historical romance, keeping books by an author together, 1 bag for mysteries/cozies etc...,

I GOT IT FIGURED OUT - Some of us old fellers can be smart sometimes !!!

Well ladies, You helped me use my "noodle". I figured out that if I put my ISBN's for a box of books on the wordpad and upload only one full box at a time, I have a date and time that I can put on the end of the box. For example: If we get a book request, it tells you when you listed it - both the date and the time, so I go right to that box and find the book. So, do you think I can beat that 10,000 ???? We will see, maybe in a year or two. LOL. I just dumped my PBS bookshelf and started over.  I have nothing better to do, I have a new HOBBY !!!!! You ladies have a great day. God Bless. David
