A magical presentation of the numbers from one to ten and back again. A clever little girl takes a magician's hat, cape, and wand from its special blue box and on each double-page spread tries her best to convince her little brother of the joys of each successive new number. She dreams up a fantastic rhyme for each number, featuring an array of animals and items from her bedroom engaging in silly, nonsensical activities--"Seven kites and seven cakes,/And seven swans on sky-blue lakes." His response to each newly offered number is always the same: " NO, I WANT ONE!" At long last, back in her big sister persona, she gives in and gives him ONE puppy from her magic blue box. Each image that the she comes up with comes to life in Narahashi's sparkling watercolors.
