I have very vague memories of this book, but I know I liked it and that there was a sequel planned for it.

The main character is a woman who is living on Earth, but is then taken through a portal/door/? to another world (that maybe her family had escaped from years before?).

She learns how to function in the new world and belongs to a family of importance there.

Maybe there's talk of banking?

Like I said, vague memories!  I really want to read it again, and find out about the possible sequel, so please help!

Sounds to me like the Merchant Princes series by Charles Stross. It starts with The Family Trade and the sequels are the Hidden Family, The Clan Corporate and Merchants War.

You're very welcome. And I think he is just a quick writer. If I'm remembering correctly he's putting out at least two of this series a year.
