This book goes into great detail on the pharmaceutical companies war against ephedra and smaller health companies. It also lists which over-the-counter and prescription medications to avoid.

However, it is rather verbose, yet it does not answer its own question (Why is America So Fat?) Not consuming ephedra was never a cause of obesity. Yes, the pharmaceutical companies have their hands in this mess, but the problem does not begin at the drugstore-- it begins at the grocery store. We shouldn't consume products of chemical engineering.
