I had a wish list book go lost in the mail.  Since I was number 1 on list in order to get the book, I thought I would go back to number 1.  I just checked and I am now number 2.  I have most of my wish list on auto request just want to know why I didn't go to number 1 again.

Likely because someone who was ahead of you in the queue went off hold, or they had a transaction cancelled, or a book was maked lost.

Most likely it'll go from WL to quite a few copies posted in a short time if they're are 12 copies (on average) a week being posted.

This has happened to me before too, several times, in fact. I sometimes think it's strange how at the exact moment that I go back onto the WL, someone else is "coming off hold.". Oh, well... at least #2 is better than #20. :)

Debbie (orchid7)  it doesn't always have to be that someone is coming off hold at the exact moment that you go back on the wishlist and you are bumped to #2....it could be

- you weren't #1 when you were offered the book, like maybe someone ahead of you had requestor conditions that could not be met so you received the request as #2

- someone ahead of you did have their account on hold and came off hold while you were waiting to have the request accepted or while it was being mailed to you and went lost.

- someone ahead of you had a book go lost or had marked one RWAP.

there are numerous reasons why you wouldn't go back to #1...the Help Center doesn't say you will go back to #1, it states that you will go back to your previous position in line.

The most common reason for not going back to #1 in the Wish List line is because you were never #1 in the first place. The people in front of you were on Hold and you were offered the book while in a position other than #1.

You will always go back to the place you were previously. The Wish List is based on the date/time of the Wish and it will put you behind anyone with an earlier Wish date and in front of anyone with a later Wish date.

Its a bad time for mail travelling. I would put the book on Hold and contact the sender to see if it has been sent. If you accept another offer and this copy shows up and was mailed within the allowed time, you will be giving credits for both copies.
