OK, so I ordered a book from someone and they declined because of requestor conditions. They actually misread them. So I turned off the conditions and reordered the book. I was ordering a paperback but my conditions ask for hardcovers with dustjackets when I order a hardback. Anyway, the request got cancelled again because the person could not find the book. So I got moved to the wishlist because there were no other copies. Well, someone else added the book to their wishlist and there still are no other copies and the site removed me from the wishlist to the reminder list. The email says that the book cannot be on my wishlist if there is a copy in the system, but there is no copy in the system. So now I have lost my #1 place in line because I had to go back in and move it to my wishlist again. Why would the system do this? And has anyone experienced this? And I certainly hope this does not happen again. That is frustrating..... Tricia |

The system moves it to your Reminder if there is no one behind you in the WL line and a copy is posted that cannot meet your RCs. It sucks because you have to watch for that one to be gone and get it back on your WL before someone else does or you won't get to be #1, but that is the way the system has to handle it. Its a coding issue I am sure, they have to remove you from the WL in order to have that copy available to order. I've had it happen a few WL books because I have RCs. Some I got back in first just fine, others I ended up behind someone else. |

But there was no copy of the book. I have been on the wishlist for almost a week and there were no copies in the system. I guess this is what i am not understanding. |

is it possible that the person that couldn't find the book did find it and posted it which bumped you off because she had previously declined you? what is the ISBN? can you add it back to your WL now? perhaps the original person found the book and in the meantime someone else added it to the WL and it bumped you off and it went to the second person Last Edited on: 1/26/09 11:55 AM ET - Total times edited: 1 |

Oh, Ok Leslie, that makes more sense. What a raw deal. I was wondering why I was getting bumped. I was able to get it back on my wishlist, but unfortunately I am not number 1 anymore. Oh well. Thanks for the replies.... :-) Have a great day

It's set up so that you can' t re-request the same book from someone who denied your RCs-even if you turn them off. That's why stuff like that happens when there's only 1 wisher and it's denied for RCS. |

There was a change earlier this month, where if you turn off or rewrite your RCs, you can now rerequest a book from someone who previously turned you down. From the Help Center:

Aw sorry, hope you get your book soon! |

Hmmm... it would be nice if the system were setup to give you the option of accepting the book anyway, after the sender declines. For a very limited amount of time of course. Something like this: You have a RC that says you only accept books from a non-smoking environment. Sender declines because, while they don't smoke, the book is used and they can't vouch for it never being in a smoking environment. They say so as their reason for declining. You get a notification of that, along with the reason, but the system gives you 12 hours to decide to accept the book anyway, or definately decline that copy. If you do nothing, in 12 hours it's fully declined. If you click that you definately don't want it after 2 hours have passed that ends the 12 hour waiting period. Or, you choose to accept it anyway, but lose the ability to RWAP it for it not meeting RC.
