I have some great books on my bookshelf but they don't seem to be moving?!? Any suggestions? (Besides for offering a two for one deal?) I'd like to actually get some points coming in...

You only joined a couple weeks ago. :) Give it time! :) Many of the books on your shelf are the only copy of that book, so I imagine you will get some requests before too long. :)

Mostly popular stuff moves fast--Jodi Picoult, Janet Evanovich, anything new...

Hi Sarah - I just checked out your shelf, you do have some great books there!  I noticed a couple, like Little Earthquakes, are books that a lot of people have on their shelves.  You may or may not know this already, but PBS works on what is called the FIFO system, meaning First In, First Out.  So, if 10 people had say, Little Earthquakes on their shelf before you posted your copy, those copies get requested before yours.  So, that may have something to do with it.  I have also found that orders tend to come in spurts.  When I first joined, I got like 5 orders and then nothing for a week and then a couple orders...and on and on.

Welcome to PBS!  I know that it is frustrating to have to wait for orders, but it will happen for you, I promise!

Hi.  I'm a new member as well.  There's a guide in the "hints" section of the help menu that gives suggestions, and one which I've taken to heart is posting books frequently.  I've been trying to post a book every few days- sometimes I'm amazed that the obscure book I posted is on someone's wish list (who knows how long they've been waiting for it).  But at the very least, anyone browsing the books posted today will see your book (and hopefully your bookshelf).  Since I am often looking for books myself that are unavailable, I look for things in the meantime that might be a good read, and usually turn to the newly posted stuff first.

Sarah,

I'm new too and try to post a new book every day or so.

Also, I read the Forums. Any topic that looks interesting I post to. You can also add details to your signature, your likes dislikes, what's on your TBL. All things really active swappers look for to entice them to read your shelf!

Scroll down on the Forum page and look for the catagory that most of your books fall under. Sometimes people don't put a book they are looking for on their wishlist (don't ask me why, My first request was from someone that pm'd me for it, why she didn't just put it on auto request is beyond me)

Read Book Bazzar and see if someone's looking for deals on any authors you have more than 2 or 3 different titles. Sometimes, if they like that author, they take them ALL!

The more you get your name out there on Forums the more people may read your shelf. I've buddy listed several people I see consistantly posting in the genres I enjoy. I may not be actively swapping with them but I know they like what I like and I keep checking their shelf every week.

Good Luck!

The more books you have on your bookshelf, the more likely it is that you'll get one requested.  If you don't have very many to list, that's fine, but you'll probably just have to be patient.  : )

I would try going to the goodwill every other Saturday when they have the 50% off sale. You would be amazed how many good used books you will find for 1.00. Some of them you can post, others put on your TBR pile, but that will keep things flowing on your shelf. 1.00 is a small investment when you think about how many points you can accumulate by doing this. Now Im just hooked because we have some very well read donators in Phoenix!

I think posting regularly is a big help.  I'm a frequent poster and I send out a lot of books.  I have had a lot of WL books to post.  But I've had a lot of orders from my shelf for books that are plentiful in the system.  A lot of PBS regulars, myself included, like to order from people they see on the boards regularly.  I know I usually check out the shelves of people I'm having a discussion with on the boards.

Also there is a thread called I Have The Only Copy Of..., on the Book Bazaar page.  You might have to scroll for it but you can post your onlies on there or start a new thread.  And don't knock offering a deal.  I sometimes do 2 for 1 and 3 for 1. The postage doesn't really go up much and I've gotten rid of books that are in abundance on PBS.  They might have otherwise continued to collect dust while waiting for FIFO to catch up with me.

I was also going to say get involed in the forums.  your name/nickname will be come familar and more peoplewill want to check your shelf out. Speaking of which................................be back!

Ok, I checked out your shelf and you have  great start.  Hit the Goodwill or Salvation Army book sale or a good rummage sale or a Freiends of the Library Sale.  Hit up friends and family for books they no longer want. "Volunteer "to take care of the books-

I'd order one, but I already own all those books:)  Someone will snatch them up eventually, though.  Welcome to the club!!
