On Feb. 4 I mailed a book to a fellow PBS member. It has not been marked received yet. I know you may think I'm jumping the gun by panicing early, but it only has to go not much more than 10-12 miles from where I mailed it. Why should a book take 2 weeks to go less than 14 miles? Should I PM the receiver to see if its been received?

A book mailed to me from no more than 10 miles away took 3 weeks to reach me. I decided that if I had anyone that close again, I would hand deliver it!

If you send media mail, it has to go from you to your region's bulk-mail-sorting facility, which may be quite a distance away, and then to the bulk-mail-sorting facility of the recepient's region (which may also be not very close to where they live), before being delivered.

If you sent it media mail, it may not have left the PO on the day you mailed it either. The reason MM is so cheap is it has to wait until there is room, no room - it has to wait.

It can really depend on what POs it goes through. If I send something to my sister, it is there the next day, even MM goes straight there, no sorting facility or anything. I can mail it at 5:30 PM and she gets it the next day in the mail.  If I send something to my in-laws who are much closer, it takes at least 2 days because it goes through one PO that always seems to slow mail down.

It all makes no sense. MM makes it even more so.

I've ordered things online and most were media mail. But it never takes more than about a week and a half to get it. I odered a book from PBS, it was maild on 2-2, and I still haven't recieved it yet. And it is only coming from 4 hours away! I recieved a no-reply email today to remind me to mark it recieved, but I can't because I'm still waiting to recieve it. I hate to say this but I think that the sub-mail carrier left it on my door step and someone took it. All packages where I live are to be left at the complex's office. My roomie ordered ink from Dell and someone stole it, because the mailman left it at the door. And I figured out the timing that the book should have been delivered with the Dell package. Should I still wait until the system kicks in, or should I PM the sender now?

Book still not received (as far as I know). I asked my postal carier why it would take so long and she has no idea. Huge mystery to me.
