Someone here at PBS mentioned Blood Gospel so I put it on my WL and received it as I have liked several books by James Rollins that I've read in the past. But neither the synopsis nor any of the reviews I read mentioned it was a VAMPIRE story.......it is 'sold' as similar to Dan Brown's religious adventure novels with some real archeology thrown in so I was really expecting that but barely 100 pages into this over 700 page long book, it becomes a hunt by the vampires for a religious artifact apparently stolen by the Nazi's.  Sorry......just not what I wanted.

So far the first time in years, I am NOT finishing a book and am passing it along the WL line.

Well, I was one of the folks that suggested Blood Gospel, and I know for sure I mentioned Warrior Priest Vampires vs Bad Vampires. I have since finished the second book in the "Order of the Sanguines" series and am eagerly awaiting the next installment.

I'm not a big vampire fan, but I like Rollins and I thought, while this was a departure from the ordinary for him, it's a good yarn.

I picked this up at the library for my mom because it looked like something she would love, I'll also say I'd heard nothing about it before picking it up off the shelf.  My mom is a big fan of the Dan Brown Books, and loves urban fantasy and paranormal fantasy.  She has done nothing but rave about this series.  I however try not to read such long books, so I haven't gotten around to this one.

Though I have to wonder how you had no idea that it was about vampires???? After reading the insert on the book and the stuff on the back cover I'd figured out that it was about Vampires before I left the library with the book.  I don't remember what exactly on the inside cover had me making that assumption but I do know that I inferred a lot do to the a word in the series name (Sanguines).  There was something about an unholy monster in the insert I believe too.

The hardcover on here is tagged as Science Fiction & Fantasy >> Fantasy >> Contemporary  was that not there when you put it on the wl?   Also from the Hardcover description on here "The enemy who hounds them is like no other, a force of ancient evil directed by a leader of impossible ambitions and incalculable cunning. From crumbling tombs to splendorous churches, Erin and her two companions must confront a past that traces back thousands of years, to a time when ungodly beasts hunted the dark spaces of the world, to a moment in history when Christ made a miraculous offer, a pact of salvation for those who were damned for eternity."  Even if your not thinking about vampires you have to at least assume that it would have Demons or something like that in it.  Are you ok with Demon books?

Also how comes you posted this in the paranormal section and not the Christian Fiction section?  Or the Mystery and thriller section?  Here your just going to have people who loved Dan Brown, who loves para's, and who haven't heard of this series go out and look for it.  In one of those other sections you might have gotten someone who might understand where your coming from.  Not trying to be rude just curious!

I like Rollins' Sigma Force series but just couldn't get into Blood Gospel. I may have made it about 200 pages in before I returned it to the library.
