I have a couple of books on my wish list were I keep moving back on the list.  I'll be # 11 for a couple of weeks, then I check and I'm  #12 and now #13.  And it isn't one book but three of them were I keep moving back in the queue.  Why is this happeing?

As outlined in the Help Docs:

Why did I move *backward* on my Wish List?

This happens when another member who was "ahead of you" in line previously (and who got an offer of the book already) gets back into line, for one of several reasons:

  • The member's Wish List book never arrived, and was declared lost in the mail
  • The member's Wish List transaction was canceled by the sender
  • The member had had her account on hold, and has now returned from vacation and unHeld her account. She will go back into line at her previous position when she does this: if she was "ahead of you" before, you will move back a space.

Please be assured that we would NEVER put another member ahead on the Wish List without good cause--in order to go ahead of others on the Wish List, a member MUST have Wish Listed that item earlier (on an earlier date) than they did.

This time of year, many members put their accounts on Vacation Hold as they cannot spend their usual amount of time on internet, instead focusing on family, work, and other outside life activities.  So your position in the WL line is being affected by the members coming off of Hold.  Also, the other reasons for moving backwards in WL line (such as members being returned to former WL place due to Lost Books etc.) are also more prevalent this time of year when USPS has been dealing with a larger volume of mail to handle.

This time of year is probably when you will see the most movement on your WL positioning!

The fact that it's three different books instead of one is just luck of the draw.

Perhaps it's one member coming off hold who has the same taste in books as you. :)

A WL book getting marked RWP will also put that person back in line.

I think stuff like this is more noticeable around the holidays because there are probably quite a few people using the vacation hold, and then taking it off when they are over.
