Maybe they had a family emergency or something that happened after they posted the book. Maybe they realized they have no money until the next payday 2 wks from now. I had a lady offer me a BOB. I picked my books and accepted. She had a death in the family and couldn't mail them for 2 wks. But with BOB there is no real deadline so she didn't have to cancel the deal. Of course it's also possible that they had it listed on another site and then posted it here not realizing it's a WL book. Then they fibbed when filling out the cancellation. Or they loaned it to someone. |

Katie-- I understand your frustration; a lot of areas are having various weather disasters and influenza outbreaks at the moment too, so perhaps that is part of it. Since it is a new member, you might take advantage of the opportunity to politely inform her of the feature that will allow her to put her bookshelf on hold. Per the Help Center: "If you are away from your home and cannot send out books within this timeframe [7 days], your account should be on hold to prevent incoming requests." Cheers, Catt |

In my case a family member borrowed one on my posted list - so I'm hoping noone requests it until she's done! |

You can put just that book on hold on your bookshelf. When the family member returns, then you can post it again. That is what I like about the new Bookshelf. You do not have to remove books that people borrow or that you are using in a swap. You can just put it on hold.

An excuse I get a lot is: "It was taken on another swap site and I forgot to delete it on here" or "Sorry...it just sold on E-Bay". Cross listing on multiple sites is a common practice

I got one last month - a WL book - posted that afternoon. After I accept, I get a PM stating "Sorry, I only have one copy and I sent it to someone else this morning." Ummm... this morning was before it posted to my list!!! This is why we need a do not trade list! |

I had someone request a book that I sent as part of a 3 for 1 deal and forgot to take it off my bookshelf. I am VERY careful about that now. I felt horrible. But we are all human so who knows what happened. |

I had a similar problem, I pulled a couple books to use in a swap, and then I had them ordered! Oopse! I forgot to take them off the bookshelf!! |

I've been on both sides of this Katie! We sold our house last April and moved fairly quickly. I had about 100 books posted on my bookshelf. I was so careful to try to box them all together, in 3 boxes. I had, I think 3 different books requested off my list that I just could not find. Two of them I still haven't. One when I did find it I pm'ed the person to see if she still wanted it. I felt so bad about all of them. I finally printed out my bookshelf list, went through all my books and now make sure I know where all my books are. I have had this happen to me too. One funny story about a wish list book I requested- it was accepted, label printed, checked mailed. When it was just about to go missing, the sender sent me an email saying that their father had dropped it in the driveway on the way to the mailbox and it was destroyed in the rain. Okay, so I was disappointed, I had really wanted it. About 2 weeks later I received a pm from the member- guess what? I found the exact same book at a garage sale, so I will send it right out to you!!! They did too! I often wonder though, if they had lost it, didn't want to admit it, then eventually found it!! LOL! Anyways, don't give up hope, hopefully you will get the book you want soon! |
