Okay I recieved a request today, had to decline due to RC about being in a current smoking enviroment, not the point.

The point is, the second half of their RC states that they are WILLING to accept books with water damage.

Huh?  I am all for offering freebies and such of water damaged books, I have done it myself over in the book bizarre, but to have an RC that you are willing to accept water damaged books.  To me it seems like you might be encouraging people to post unpostable books.

Can someone enlighten me?

I think the only person who could answer this is the person who wrote the RC.   The only reason I can think of is that she is desperate for some books.   Doesn't make sense to me but then, a lot of RC's don't.

I read the RC - mail my book if it fits.  If it doesn't I decline and try not to think about the WHY of it.

Interesting  . . . don't suppose it's acceptable to post the members name?  I have one book that has lite water damage, wonder if it's on her wishlist . . .

Since the OP declined the RC (because of the smoking part) then she won't have a way of contacting the sender (and you're right Denise, she shouldn't post the name anyway).  We don't get that PM button until we've clicked that we can mail a book, and have chosen an "I can mail by..." date.

I guess the RC would be helpful in this scenario: I posted a book that meets the guidelines.  As I am wrapping it, I spill a drop of tea on it...

But it strikes me as unusual to say you'll accept unpostable books in an RC.  I wouldn't recommend it, but as long as she herself is not posting unpostable books, I'm not sure it's against the rules.

I would never post the member's name, even if I knew what it was.

I guess I could see the scenario if I was wrapping a book and spilled a bit of coffee or something on it.  Still, just seems different strategy to get your books, and willing to use a credit for what is an unpostable that you know you cannot repost.

Just an observation, and yes, it is not in my best interest as to wonder why, but well, it was just the first time I had seen anything like that.

I've seen some people say they have that in the RCs and it seems like no one should be getting as far as seeing them with a water damaged book. But, the only thing I can think of is that if someone has an RC like that, the post might look at their Wish List to see if any of their damaged books are on there and offer them to her at that point.
