Very different from my normal genre of paranormal romance, but it was really a good book. I liked the unique characters and the world in which they lived. The story was really interesting. The only negative I have is that much of the book uses old world type language & expressions and sometimes I had to re-read a part to understand what it was saying so it took me longer to read than most books. The story is the life and times of the wicked witch of the west from Wizard of Oz fame.

This book was truly awful and a chore to read. A friend said she tried several times over the course of 10 years and finally threw it in the trash. How they made a hit play is beyond me, I'm afraid to see the play now.

Entirely different from anything I've read. I fell in love with Elphaba. The characters are well written and it's amazing how different they all are. Often when you read a work of fiction it's obvious that all the characters are the creation of one person. There is so much variety, and even the way they speak is different. I absolutely love this book, but don't usually recommend it because it's got some weird sex stuff in it- The kind that makes you feel kinda yucky inside. But the story is amazing and makes you wish when you watch The Wizard of Oz, that Dorothy won't throw that pail of water on the "wicked" witch.

I had wanted to read this book for sometime. I plan to read as many of Gregory Maguire's books as I can. He is an incredible writer. The writing is top notch, a use of the english language not often seen. The story is also good, giving a whole new perspective on what is good and what is evil. Try it!!!

This was picked as a book club choice and was very excited to read it. I love reading stories that give you a different version of what you thought you already knew. When I was finished with this book, I wanted to go back and read Baum's OZ books to see how true to those Wicked was (or could have been) There were little details that came back to me from Return to OZ. It was very hard to read at first because of the fictional words, especially when he went into politics and religion, but after a while you got used to them. It was a great book that did leave you wondering about a few things, but hopefully those questions will be answered in the sequel.

Being a fan of the wizard of oz I thought, and was told by someone I would love this book. It was hard to read with and contained some sex talk that was disquisting. Not at all what Ihad in mind when I stated to read this. I guess the story of the Wizard of Oz is a story that go a thousand different ways from the first story.
