The Widening Wedge Personal Experiences of Mrs Edwin B Young Affectionately Known as Mother Helen Author:Mrs. Edwin B. Young THE WIDENING WEDGE by Mrs. Edwin B. Young is a powerful inspiring book written in 1949 that has a message as important for the evangelical church today as yesterday. — This inspirational book of the experiences of a devoted Christian missionary couple, Edwin and Helen Young will rekindle the fire of your devotion to Jesus Christ. Edwin Young was ... more »involved in the American Sunday School Union. Together they raised money and support to send countless missionaries to foreign countries for the spread of the Gospel.
The author tells where the title, The Widening Wedge comes from: "I found enclosed a card put out by the Student Volunteer Movement, on which was an illustration of the immensity of heathen darkness by a solid circle of black having only a wedge of white running to its gloomy center and representing Gospel light. A tremendous responsibility was borne in upon my heart as I considered the darkness of the great heathen world set forth by this picture. There was a deep sense of conviction and lack of love and prayer for those who had never heard of their Lord and Saviour."
"Mother Helen" was an inspiration to all who knew her in the early 1900's. From the forward: "When the gently and beloved husband was called to be with the Lord a few years ago and increasing blindness settled upon Mother Helen, some of us were wondering just how the great witness that the Lord had started was to be carried on. He who begins a good work does complete it. One of the answers is the publication of these personal experiences. Those of us who have been with Mother Helen in the prayer room, or in her sick room, in large gatherings of famous conferences, or in small parlor groups, in the personal interviews, or along the way in her personal witnessing to others, will realize that the graciousness of the Spirit of God in and through her could hardly be conveyed in the written word."
This is a short book, only 88 pages. Each of the 21 chapters contains stories that will fill your heart with wonder at God's miracoulous provision to His people so the Gospel of Jesus Christ can go forth to every country in the world.
This story needs retelling. It would be a wonderful blessing for this book to be reprinted so more could know the story of Edwin and Helen Young.« less
