About two-thirds of the way through the book I had the best suspects whittled down to two men with a common interest. I choose the wrong one as the murderer. So the ending was a surprise to me.

The Upfield Napoleon Bonaparte series give a great feel for the setting of early to mid 20th century Australia but are generally a little weak in plot. Good light read.
