Lauralee Johnston was an orphan of the Civil War, watching her mother die a violent death and assuming that her father had perished in the war, she had learned to take care of herself and to never trust any man. She trained as a nurse to work at a Veteran's hospital in hopes that someday she might speak with a man who knew her father and could tell her things that she never knew. Little did she know her world would be turned upside down.
Joe Dancing Cloud was a full blooded Cherokee living in the North Carolina Mountains helping his people move on after the destruction of the Civil War. He hopes to one day follow in his father's footsteps and become the proud Chief. Yet he can't help but wander when an old friend asks him for a favor.

Brought together by circumstances that rarely happen in real life Lauralee and Dancing Cloud not only have families in common but the same red haired enemy who made his way around during the civil war. I found the romance to be great at first but then I felt it moved too quickly, throwing two people who barely knew each other, and practically forgetting Lauralee's fears, thinking she can get over them in twenty-four hours

Book #6 in the Wild Series.

The tragedy of the Civil War had forced Lauralee Johnston into an orphanage, and years passed before she found her beloved father and heeded his dying wish; that she place her trust in the handsome Cherokee brave, Joe Dancing Cloud. The sheltered Lauralee was wary of unfamiliar Cherokee customs and of Dancing Cloud's powerful, exotic presence, but he gradually gentled her with quiet strength...teaching her about the kind of passion they had in common...lighting the fires of love as he claimed her for his bride. But the bond forged between this bronzed, proud man and shy, beautiful woman was rattled by the prejudice and hate swirling around them...as a red-haired Yankee villain from the war-torn past threatened to tear their union asunder. Yet this venomous enemy was no match for the fierce power of two lovers defending their one glowing dream, their destiny....
