Exceptional! At first, this is slow moving and was one of those books that I was unsure of. However, once you are a couple of chapters into the story it really grabs your attention. This is a book that has characters that will stick with you long after you finish the story. One character touched and inspired me so much. If you are an adult survivor of any kind of abuse at the hands of parents (or loved ones) or if this situation touches you in any way personally, this story will be even more profound and touching for you to read. I read before turning out the lights at night and I could not wait to get to that time of the day so I could read more of this book! It was such an inspiring story that I felt I was a better person after reading it. Really a great book. Just hang in there through the first few chapters and you'll be hooked and hopefully as touched as I was on a spiritual level.

Margaret Tutle's story is about being able to give and receive love, though sometimes love is given freely, without forethought or strings. Margaret has a story hidden deep inside. Her gruff exterior hides a broken heart.

Birdie Freeman enters the life of Margaret Tuttle, becoming
an unexpected and unusual friend. Margaret will learn that
Birdie has dark secrets of her own.

This is a bittersweet tale that you will want to read
again.

I found this book slow to begin with and hoped that I would "warm" to the style of writing. I was wrong, about half way through I closed it and posted it for trade. I found the Story-teller/author a bitter, unfriendly, hateful old hag who didn't deserve the sweet friendship of Birdie nor did she even deserve the faithfulness of her co-workers in that she was obviously just a tyrant to be around most days. I developed a soft spot for her precious albeit unsaved husband...I am hoping that by the end of the story that Margaret and her husband are converted into believers of Jesus Christ and perhaps any stories with Margaret as a character will have just that...character. I just couldn't waste another minute digesting her big words that required a dictionary to understand and I live next door to the town this book was set in and enjoy a southern spin...but not this time.
