This historical from Kincaid was really a really fine story, which surprised me because I was not too enthusiastic about the locale where the story takes place when I picked it to buy. It had good reviews, so tryed it. I ended up enjoying the story very much.

I like this author because she writes about unusual places and times. This book takes place in colonial India and is a sensual love story between an Englishwoman and an mixed-race Indian man who's also a single dad. How cool is that?! The writing is lush and the descriptions of Calcultta and Wildwood were a marvel.

The hero is very arrogant, typical of men of his time and the heroine is feisty. I liked her a lot and was rooting for her to figure things out on her own. Alexander does some underhanded things in the name of pride and prejudice, but Emma gives him holy hell for it, which was no less than he deserved.

Overall, a sweet story in a beautiful setting.
