I am interested in reading a biography on Winston Churchill - not a scholarly, dry tome, but a book about the man.  There are sooooo many listed here and on Amazon.  Any suggestions?

Thank you in advance.

If you really want to know Winston, read William Manchester's two books: The Last Lion.  The first covers 1874-1932, and the second covers 1932-1940.  It was suppose to be a triology, but Manchester died before writing the third book.

An interesting book on Winston in the Boer War is Churchill: Wanted Dead or Alive.

I've read a number of books on various aspects of Winston's life and the man definitely had his faults. But even those who prayed every night that he would stop interfering in the everyday planning of the war admit they couldn't imagine how they would have won it without him.

If you can get The Wilderness Years, that is a great story of the time he was "out of power' before the War.  Or you can see if your library has the TV series that was based on this book.  My personal belief is that this was the best historical film documentary ever made.
