I thought this was a wonderful sequel to The Summer at Willow Lake. My only complaint is I wish the author would have included Olivia, Connor and Philip more, since they are part of Jenny's history. They only seemed to pop in and out of the story a few times, with not as much depth as I would have liked. But, otherwise, I thought the story was fabulous and entertaining. The ending was well done, too... an expected twist!

I LOVED this book. So rich and enthalling. I didn't know it was the second in the Lakeside Chronicles (Summer at Willow Lake, Dockside) series.

Jenny has lost everyone she has ever loved: her mother who left her, her grandparents who died, her fiance in a senseless tragedy and her house through fire. The only one who has always been there for her is Rourke. But he does everything he can to stay away.

As Jenny learns to be alone, even as unexpected family members pop out of the woodwork, can Rourke finally learn to show the love he's kept hidden for way too long?

Susan Wiggs has a very easy style of reading. But also compelling enough to keep you turning pages. The Winter Lodge is a "sequel" to Summer at Willow Lake but you don't have to read the first to enjoy the second. She has good character development and believable plots.

The Winter Lodge is Book 2 in the Lakeshore Chronicles series and answers a lot of questions posed in Book 1, Summer At Willow Lake.

By book 2 Jenny Majesky is well aware that she has a sister and is a member of the Bellamy family. After the death of her grandmother, she is groping to get on with her life when her house goes up in flames. She immediately thinks it's something she did not do before she left the house which cause the fire but local police chief Rourke McKnight is not so sure.

Jenny and Rourke have a history which is told in flashbacks. Their story is powerful and is brought full circle when Jenny realizes how much she needs Rourke.

Mystery and suspense plays a key role in The Winter Lodge and long hidden secrets are exposed.

Susuan Wiggs is an excellent author. You will love any of her books. This is the 2nd in a series (Lakeside Chronicals). Very family oriented, and dripping with emotion and love and yet a hint of spite too! Loved it!

This book picks up where Summer at Willow Lake leaves off and continues the story of Jenny Majesky, the daughter of one of the characters in Willow Lake. Jenny has to learn to let go of her familiar and safe past when fire destroy her home and all she holds dear. She finds refuge and more in Rouke McKnight, the local sherrif, who isn't exactly what he has made himself out to be. Susan Wiggs draws you into her stories and you really care about the people involved. This is a really great read!!

Starred Review. In her latest bustling romance, Wiggs cooks up a rich stew of family plots past and present, spiced with plenty of generations-old Polish recipes, in this second installment of the Lakeshore Chronicles (after Summer at Willow Lake). Returning to Camp Kioga in Avalon, a small New York town where the wealthy Bellamy family has deep roots, Wiggs trains the spotlight on Avalon native Jenny Majesky, a food columnist and bakery owner who learned in the last Lakeshore tale that Phillip Bellamy is her birth father. Alone and grieving following the death of her beloved grandmotherJenny's mom left her at age fourJenny's life turns even worse when her house burns to the ground. Stunned, homeless and keeping afloat with a little help from the medicine cabinet, Jenny moves in with Avalon police chief and notorious lady's man Roarke McKnight, a friend she fell out with after a night of drunken, mind-blowing sex a decade before. With the ease of a master, Wiggs introduces complicated, flesh-and-blood characters into her idyllic but identifiable smalltown setting, sets in motion a refreshingly honest romance, resolves old issues and even finds room for a little mystery. The result is as appealing as the heroine's Polish Apple Strudel, the recipe for which is thankfully included.

another great book by this author first the love of a lifetime really the kind of love that only happens in a book. They waited all there life to tell each other how they felt. Waited till almost everyone else was happy because they were apart. They needed to be there for each other know matter what.. at least in the end they find happiness.

A wonderful love story about Rourke and Jenny. This story shows how difficult and complicated love can be. Jenny and Rourke fell in love as teenagers but denied themselves because of their love for and guilt over the death of their dear friend, Joey. Jenny's life is busy running the bakery started by her Polish grandparents, but she is pretty much alone now that her Gran has died. Rourke is the police chief of Avalon where they both live. A series of not so wonderful events unfold which will eventually bring Jenny and Rourke together. I loved the book.

I began the Lakeshore chronicles with book one and have continued through all four. I like the continuance of the characters from book to book without the redundancy that so many books seem to have. The stories flow from character to character and event to event and are an interesting and light-hearted reading. I enjoyed the journey through their accomplishments and their setbacks and the determination to move ahead. I look forward to reading more from her.

This is the second in the series, and I'm ready to read the third. It was a very good read. I only wish that the climax of the book had come a little earlier. There was a lot of build-up, but the ending came so fast. I wanted to know more. All in all, it's a great series.

I think I might be done with Wiggs. Her books are just too similar to one another. The storyline is all the same. Usually it's about how opposites attract (opposites due to social circumstances or popularity) and revisiting lost love. I've read the books that come after this one so I was quite excited to read about Jenny and Roarke. They seemed really intriguing but was sorely disappointed. Be warned there are spoilers in this review.

Basically you have Jane / George / Charles's Belamy's story redone in the form of Jenny / Roarke / Joe. The plotline of Joe supposedly dying but didn't was rehashed in Daisy / Julian / Logan's storyline. The list goes on. Usually Wiggs create some awesome characters though that keeps me reading but not in this case. Jenny, was actually pretty cool, but she was so hessitant about everything. Roarke was just wooden and such an idiot and I don't think he ever really dealt with the problems that made him such an idiot.

So I gave this one such a low rating because if you have read other books by Wiggs, it's like all her other stories. If you haven't, then you might like this one.

I love to read and enjoy a wide range of books from historical to political to novels but I have to admit that I really did not enjoy this book. It is in a "Romance" category but that really doesn't fit. The romance between Jenny and Roarke takes up less than 1/4 of the book. More about their relationship and their history would have been enjoyable but the book jumps around so much that it is difficult to put all of the pieces together. You finally get the whole story but it is disjointed to the point that I didn't even enjoy the story. Jenny did not know she had a father while growing up and the story of her meeting him was just thrown in without too much detail at the time (you piece together more of the story later) which is frustrating. It's like the author had a difficult time staying focused and took her notes for this book and threw them together without organizing them. I won't be reading another book in the series.

After reading "Just Breathe" by Wiggs I was ready to write her off entirely, BUT she has won we over with the Lakeshore Chronicles series. This story is beautifully woven around the themes of love, loss, guilt, and in the end finding home. I enjoyed the development of the love between Jenny and Rourke (although it's been there since they were kids). My only complaint about the series so far is the mildness of the love scenes. I'd rate the "juicy scenes" around a 2, not so juicy. I personally like the romance a little steamier :)
