I'm about half way through Winterdance and thoroughly enjoying it! An excellent adventure story with wonderful, self-deprecating humor, excitement, and some sadness. There seems to be a lot of heart and soul in this book. I'm sure others have read it. What did you think?

Oh, Sheila, why don't you bring this up to the Memoir thread in Hidden Gems. I think most of us there forget this place is here. There was a lot of talk in other threads about this book, and this is why I got it, and there it sits on my TBR. This book was one of Lester's favorites... |

Is Winterdance the book where Paulsen describes his practice runs on dry land with the dogs? I don't remember laughing so hard at any other description anywhere!! Fabulous book. I used to have my 7th grade language arts class read Woodsong, which might be a condensed version of Winterdance. It, too, is positively enchanting in the telling of the mysterious events that occurred during Pausen's Iditarod run. As many times as I've read it I keep a copy for future reading. It gets ***** (that's 5 stars) from me! |

My daughter loves Gary Paulson's books about dogs. She loved Woodsong and Dogsong(I think is the other title). I will have to tell her about this one. |
