A wonderful contemporary story full of faith, family, friendship and love!

This was a thoroughly enjoyable read, set in the Amish community in Jamesport, Missouri. I felt immersed in the story from the beginning, as the families merged during one crisis and continued to help each other with each new challenge. It was like landing in a family reunion at first, but the main characters were easy to sort out. (The reference in the beginning was helpful too.) Anyone who has experienced caring for older parents while taking care of their own children--the 'sandwich generation'--will understand the dilemmas surrounding the older characters in this heart tugging story.

I loved the banter between Laura and Zechariah, as they went from acquaintances to allies, then a tender friendship. Their struggles with loss, moving on, feeling useless, helpless and disrespected at times, were things many of us older adults could relate to. Their wisdom and faith, backed up with prayer and service, were inspirational. Learning to let go of what we cannot control, and trusting God for guidance, renewed purpose, and looking to Him for help in meeting our needs (both spiritual and physical) were important lessons here. I loved the ending. It was a perfect wrap up. I want to go back and read the other books in this series now!

An inspirational and heartfelt story perfect for readers teenaged and up. Recommend!

This is a different book than I have ever read before. Two 70+ Amish people fall in love and have to decide what is right for them. This is wonderful story of faith, family and friends. There is a lot of action in this book. We have an Amish mother with placenta previa having to go to the hospital to give birth to premature twin infants. First and Second Christmas with the Amish. What will happen with an Amish girl 17 years old when she gets pregnant and the boyfriend does not want to marry her. Another Amish girl choses to become a doctor. An Amish friend while at Mc Donalds has a stroke. What do the Amish do with great grandpa when he is widowed and get Parkinson's disease badly. The Amish when a bishop dies or is to sick to serve choose another bishop by lot to serve for life. This book had always action happening and I was glued to it. What is faster than the telephone? The Amish grapevine. The Amish are most interesting as they live in and adapt to modern life and their deep faith and trust in God.
