The introduction by Leo Buscaglia says: Let me tell you a most magical tale about The Story Of The Other Wise Man...when 7 or 8 years old our librarian gave me this book..for all these years it has been in an easily accesible place in my turns this book has made me impatient, confuse, deeply moving, life changing.

I say: This classic tale from the famous early 20th century author Henry van Dyke makes for engrossing reading. And while engrossed, you learn many important lessons. A fourth Wise Man sets out to see the baby Jesus but never quite makes it because he is continually called aside to do the hard, important, loving works Jesus wants him to do. Years later he does see Jesus - at the crucifixion. And all along the way, traveling most unwillingly beside the fourth wise man, a servant longs for freedom. The crucifixion impacts him, too.

...This Christmas classic tells the story of the wise man who was left behind and his search for Christ. Beautiful illustrations showcase the majesty of the Holy Land and elegantly portray this devout man's lifelong journey to find his kind.

I did not know what to expect when picking up this book. Turns out it was one of the most touching stories I read.
We've only heard of the standard stories of the birth of a messiah 2000 years ago.
The Fourth Wiseman seeks after the one he believes to be savior of man. In his search he unwittingly shows us what salvation really is.
A beautiful parable of the truth that lies in each of us.

Beautiful book. --I first read this book when I was twenty five years old and instantly loved it. I was in a BIble Study Group for students and our leader a wonderful college professor whom invited us to her home and we became a part of her family. Now thirty years later she is one of my dearest and best friends still mentoring college students and loving them. The book not only tells the story of Christmas, it tells the story of a kind and learned man.

--The story begins long ago, when Four Wise Men agree they must find the newborn Prince of Heaven and Earth. They all know this is the most important journey they will ever take, but one of them, named Artaban, spends too much time comforting a dying old man and cannot meet his three companions as they set out, so he misses his chance to visit Bethlehem with his three friends. Artaban must begin his search all over again, but he does not regret his decision. His youth passes and he becomes a dignified and just old man. Two more opportunities to meet the Christ come his way, and both are thwarted because he again takes time to perform acts of kindness. One of these happens at the end of his life, when ....

--Artaban is lovingly touched by the Christ in a way far, far better than if he had been with his companions on that night in Bethlehem.

--This is a story for kids from one to ninety-two. If you are thinking about reading this story for you or for a child in your life, do it.... and if you've ever regretted delaying your own Spiritual Journey because you must raise children or work helping others or care for a sick relative, then this book is definitely yours.
