What does it mean when a book on my wish list is on hold?

Thank you,

Melissa

If you put WL books on hold, it means that you stay in line for the book, but a copy will not be offered to you until you take it off hold.

Also, when you have WL'd multiple versions of a book that is offered to you, the system puts all the versions on hold til you mark the book received so you won't get multiple offers for the same book.  When you mark the book received, you will see on that page a place where a checkmark shows you agree that other versions will be removed from your WL upon completing the "received" process.

Hmm marked a book received and other versions that were on hold are gone.  I thought they would remain on hold.  I better check the settings.

Is there a way to stop the system from deleting other versions from my wl?  Trying to find and add the versions back to my wl.

The screen where you mark the WL book received usually lists the ones on hold and notifies you that those books will be deleted from your WL unless you uncheck them. Next to each book there is a check box that you can uncheck if you want to keep the book on your WL.

When I see my wish list book on hold (in pink) it means that I've been offered another book by the same author that is similar.  Example:  I put Rex Stout's 'Even In the Best Families' on my WL, but it was also published under 'In the Best Families,' in paperback form.  My WL book was also hardcover, and when I accepted the PB, the original WL book was put on hold.  So it usually happens to me if I request either just a hardback or paperback and the other is offered, or if it is the same book published under a different name.

Linda,  now I remember a long list that I glanced at because It was dinner time.  Next time I will read everything carefully and not rush.   I accustomed to quickly marking DVDs received but looks like I cannot always do that with books.  It was royal pain trying to find the versions again!

JoAnne, I didn't even think of that happening when accepting a similar to wish.  I like this site but I think years later when they set up the DVD site they really streamlined a lot things.  No wonder so many people get confused when they join a sister site.  All three sites have different rules that you have to know and remember.

The time before this I marked a book received and I still have the other versions on hold in my wl.  Maybe I unchecked the "delete these from wl", I don't remember.  I will be ready for next time!
