I have a question about wish list books. I have many books on my wish list that are books that have many others waiting b/c they are books which are used for a homeschooling curriculum. Those books are on automatic order. Several times I have had the experience where I am next on the wish list so as soon as the book is posted it is automatically ordered. THen the book sits for the full time allowed without being responded to and pulled from the poster's bookshelf. I email the person b/c I really want the book and get no response. If the book was JUST then the person is active on paperbackswap. So what is going on? Are they giving it someone even though I was next line? It doesn't make sense to me and is extremely frustrating. Anyone else have this experience? Anyone opinions or insights?

Welllll, here's the thing.  In some of those cases, the person might have posted the book weeks ago.  If there were, say 3 people in line for the book in front of you, and none of those people had the book on autorequest, they have to go in and manually say - "yes, I want the book!"  So, as is sometimes the case, what if none of those 3 people respond to the offer?  Each member is allowed 5 days and change to respond.  If none of the three want the book, and none of the three respond, that means that the book has been available for a minimum of 15 days before the request goes to you.  So, it's not necessarily the case that the person who posted the book was just online and just active.  From their end, they are probably as frustrated as you are because it was a book which was wishlisted and has sat, and sat, and sat without being ordered.

Often times I think people post a book, then if its on autorequest they don't see it in the WL tab, so they don't realize they have a order coming. They wander away or decide they don't want to participate in PBS and the order times out. I have had some WL books go through 3 or 4 postings with no answer before I get a poster that sends it.

If it's a WL book, people wishing only have 48 hours to accept or reject before it goes to the next person. Senders have 5 days to respond to a request.

Okay, you're right, I messed that up, but my point still stands.
