I keep getting offered wish list books, then the "poster" never responds after waiting I go back to the wish list. Today I got back in the list at #10, on another I went back in at #2. Why am I not going back in at #1? I find this very frustrating that people are posting books and never responding and that on the book today I was originally offered it April 24. Now May 4, I'm #10 again. Thanks for explaining. |

I think the usual reason that you go back to the WL not at the #1 spot is because in the interim, while you have been waiting for the sender to respond, other people who have put their accounts on vacation hold have come back on line and they were ahead of you on the WL. So by the time you go back to the list, you are behind all of them. I usually see this when I end up in the #2 or #3 spot after my WL request has timed out, so being at #10 seems a bit strange, but maybe not if it's a very popular book? |

Also, people ahead of you on the WL could have RCs that the original (non-)sender couldn't meet. If so, the book would go down the list, but those other people would still keep their place. It's frustrating, I know, to be in that position, but be patient and eventually you'll get your book. (And on the flip side, it's very frustrating to post a WL book and have it time out on members who never respond, but eventually someone with a credit will accept it.) |

I think I'm just frustrated since this is the 3rd wish list book this has happened with in the past 2 weeks! Then 10th place seemed excessive. |

Someone gave a really excellent example of how this could happen.I'm not going to try to duplicate it but: basically there could be several people stacked up at the front with vacation holds and RCS and that's why you are #10 but got offered the book. Add in a couple possible lost in the mails and RWP's and it could easily be explained. It's not really such a big stretch when you consider how many PBS members there are. |

It is a simply one of 2 things happening (or a combination of them) a) you never were #1, you are being offered the book while in a spot farther back in line because of things like vacation holds and Requester Conditions and when the offers fall through you are returned to your previous spot in line. and/or b) the people in front of you had a book go lost, marked on RWP, or an offer that was never responded to and they were returned to their spot in front of you. It seems like that wouldn't happen that often, or that far back in line, but look at how many members we have and the number of offers not responded to that you've had this week alone. All those people behind you are wondering why they moved back another spot too! I had one recently that I was offered the book 3 times very close together, I was #3 in the line when it was offered. My best guess was that 1 and 2 were on vacation hold. The book was posted so many times that week that I am sure the people behind me were getting offers while mine was waiting for the RC to get denied. |

Thanks everyone. That makes a lot more sense how there could be 10 ahead of me. |

This would happen more easily with a heavily traded title that has lots of people wanting it. So being #10 wouldn't be a stretch if several books a day were being posted and requested. Ruth |
