I was under the impression that you shouldn't put books with out an ISBN  (the one given a 5 digit pbs #) to your wish list.  I was looking at the top 50's lists yesterday  and saw that the book Twilight  is on the list with 539 wishers.  The one listed  has a 5 digit ISBN.   Does that mean  they may be on that list forever unless the next person that tries to post the book looks it up and posts it to the 5 digit number even if there is no number on the book they are posting?  I put  Twilight on my wishlist yesterday under the 10 digit ISBN and it was offered to me today.  While I am happy to be getting the book it some how doesn't seem fair to the people who have been on the WL for a long time.  Are there any solutions.

IMO.......wishers need to carefully notice the ISBN #.   If it is a five digit PBS assigned number, it was assigned to one particular copy, and no other copy will be assigned that number.  It would appear that all those wishers are waiting for something that is not coming.

The only benefit that I can see to having the 5 number one on your wishlist would be if it were the ONLY version recognized in the system and you had the "notify me when another version is posted" feature turned on.

It is wise, to every so often, check your wishlist to see if any new ISBN versions have been entered into the system.  Better to be on several wishlists for a book!

One solution.........posting this question, so members who do not realize the 5 # ISBN is an individually assigned number.....will find out!   :)

I really really wish the 5 digit ISBNs would not appear in any search after the book it was assigned to was requested/deleted.  There is no useful reason (from a user's standpoint) for them to show up in searches if they aren't currently listed.

I went through my WL one day and discovered I had a handful of those non-ISBN books on my list. I put them there b/c I add all versions to my WL.  I try to be more careful now, but it was quite annoying to discover.

Yeah they need to figure out a way to remove those 5 digit ISBNS-they don't trigger the different version email. So that doesn't even work to have them on there.  I put the ones that are OOP/HTF on my RL and just keep checking on them.  Mostly I look for htem on Ebay or Alibris or something.

I suppose someone could tag them and put "PBS generated ISBN that's not to be reused" or something adn then refer them to real ISBNS-maybe that'll help some people.

As for the fair issue: it's up to those people to search the system and put every version on their WL. If they choose not to do that then that's their problem.  It's not hard to figure out that if you click All Books it'll bring up every version in the system.

Thanks for the reminder.  I'm aware that 5-digit ISBN's are specific to only ONE copy of a book, but I found that I had inadvertently added two of them to my wishlist, with one having 55 wishers!  Good luck with that, folks...I deleted it.
