I posted a WL book that has 340 members waiting for it.  When it was on my bookshelf, it indicated that the book was on auto request.  The book is now the third requester, me having declined the first two due to subjective RCs.  Each WL hold sat for 24 hours before the request came through.

This makes me wish that (and wonder if) PBS has the capability to provide some kind of request preview that would allow senders to know if their book is even going to meet the requirements of requestors, and decline if it doesn't, before the WL offer is even sent to the wisher.  Think of all the time it might save!

TPTB set up a post in the CMT forum asking for suggestions to improve PBS you could post your idea in that thread.

An interesting idea.  But don't some members turn on RC's before accepting a wishlist offer?  This would bypass their option to add RC's for specific books/bindings/series, etc.

That thought occured to me, too, but I think the wish automatically comes through if it's on auto-request?

The way I saw it happening in my head, a preview of the request from the 1st wishlister would come up.  If the book didn't fit that person's RCs, a preview of the 2nd wishlister's RCs would come up, and so on and so forth, until such time as (a) the next wisher had no RCs and the request would be sent to them, (b) your book fit the next RCs, or (c) the subquent wishes weren't on auto-request,

The only downside I see with this is that it might make it harder for members with RCs to get books. As it is, there's a sort of investment by the sender in each request - if you turn one down, you may have to wait two more days for the next request. As proposed, there would be absolutely no disadvantage to "shopping" for the RC (or lack of RC) that you preferred.

I can imagine it now: Let's see - no, I don't have the dustjacket, so I have to reject this one. Hmmm. The book meets these conditions but this person makes me nervous, so I'll turn her down. I don't know - this person looks too picky - I'll turn this one down, too. LOOK at the grammar errors on this one! She probably doesn't have a clue - not worth it! Oh well, I won't post it at all just yet - maybe I'll decide to go with that third poster, I don't know....

Especially with the perception (I don't find it true, myself) that people with RCs are pickier overall, I think it would become entirely too easy to skip over every single person with RCs in two minutes.

I don't have an RC myself, but I like that they're available.

No, the way I envisioned it is that the preview box would pop up, one at a time, in the order of the wish listers.  You wouldn't be able to see multiple requests at a time and the box would cycle through the wish listers in order.  Only if you declined the first one would the second one pop up (if the second one was on autorequest and had RCs, otherwise the offer would go directly to the wisher).

Then yes, that should work with autorequest.  The RC situation won't change on those anyway.

are you sure they had it on auto request? How can you tell? I thought if they had it on auto request it came to the poster immediately (maybe not even including the 1 hr buyers remorse period) and you would see the requestor conditions right away in that case (or in an hour).

-- when I have a wl item on autorequest & someone post it, it immediately shows up as accepted & it doesn't wait 48 hours for me to accept it.  Even the email is different. say something like the request is accepted, vs something like the book is offered log in to accept.

If on the other hand, they don't have it on auto request, then they get the 48 hour response time.  And isn't it better that they do in case they decide they don't really want the book.
