I just posted 3 books that are on the club wish list... but my ISBN is different because they are newer editions (reprints).  Nothing in the book has changed... they just got reprinted with new cover art.

So I am wondering if there is a way for those folks wanting these books to know there is an edition available.. just not the exact one they requested.  My guess is some wouldn't care... as long as the text is the same.

There's a thread in the Book Bazaar forum for wishlist books with different isbns. You could try posting the titles there.

they should receive an email saying a book with a different ISBN has been posted (as long as they don't have that turned off)

Barb,

I just had that exact request where I wanted the new re-release with new cover art. They are issued with a separate and new ISBN so that tells people exactly what they're getting. Say your book is "The Wizard of Oz." The system will tell anyone who is looking for that title "The book you are wishing for... has been listed into our system by another club member this is paperback and not hardcover you requested but similar" (something like that) and then they can decide to "accept" or "decline" from there.

For additional exposure if they're not moving right away the above 2 suggestions are your best bet!  =)

Cheers!

You can also Tag the other editions of your book with a tag stating "Alternate version, see ISBN xxxx".  I've used this successfully as well.  (I love the Tags!)

This brings up a questions I' ve had: I see that some alternate versions of books are listed in the system, but some are not.  For example, I have a copy of a book that is also listed in the system with the paperback and hardbound versions.  The other two are listed as related, mine is not.  Is there any way to submit a request to have my version listed as an alternate version?

Robin, good idea about the tags!

Pattie, to the best of my knowledge, I've not known them to relate books that have different ISBNs and are not listed as related. I don't know why this happens sometimes, but there is some hope that the Approve Book Authors project will eventually help out with this. But, I see that as a VERY long distant completed project, there are just so many books and so many authors, that it will probably take years for the efforts to truly come to fuition.

Thanks, Sherry.  I figured as much but thought I'd ask.
