I've noticed that I'm loosing "places" in line on several of my WL books.  I'm a little obsessed with checking tracking the status of all of my books everyday.  For example, I might be 19/21 one day and 20/22 the next.  I haven't really noticed this before but it's happened on nearly a dozen of my books just this week.  Anyone know how or why this might happen?

It could be from people taking their accounts off hold.  When you have your account on hold, it holds your wishlist, too, unless you do an autorequest.  when you take the hold off, you regain your place in line for wishlist books.

Someone with their shelf on hold has taken the hold off and regained their position in the WL line ahead of you; or a copy of the book has went lost in the mail and the person who was supposed to receive it wsa returned to first place in the WL line.

One of several things happened. !. Someone had their shelf on vacation and then took it off when your on vacation hold you dont lose your place in line you are just hidden from the system so when you take it off hold you go back to where you were thus everyone moves back down one space 2 Someone ordered a book but it was canceled. 3 Someone ordered a book but it went lost. For both of those the person will be put back in line where they were.

That makes sense.  Thanks for the explanations!

How do you check what your place is?

You know, while I understand that accounts off hold/canceled requests are really the only way that you can get bumped back on the wishlist, it seems like that would be a pretty infrequent occurrence.  I mean, how many hold/off hold activity would one expect on any given day?  But it appears that people move back on the wishlist quite often.  There is frequently someone asking about it on the forum.  Weird.

There are 29,872 people on the site with profiles and probably at least that many (maybe more without them) so considering we have around 60000 (very rough low ball estimate) its not that hard to figure that it can happen that many times. And the hold isnt the only way for a person to be added back into a WL theres also cancelations and lost books to consider.
