The Witch of Clatteringshaws (Wolves Chronicles, Bk 11)
The Witch of Clatteringshaws - Wolves Chronicles, Bk 11 Author:Joan Aiken Dido Twite’s sharp wits are put to the test in this new adventure in the Wolves Chronicles. After King Richard dies, Dido’s good pal Simon is put on the English throne, but he hates being cooped up in drafty St. James Palace, and his crusty old advisors won’t let him have any fun at all. If only another descendent of the king c... more »ould be found, Simon would gladly be replaced. Never short a solution, Dido discovers a lead to another member of the royal line. But no one knows exactly who -- or where -- the child is.
The masterful storyteller Joan Aiken once again invites readers into a spellbinding world of magic, mystery, and mayhem -- with a dose of “proper” English hilarity, of course.« less
The latest installment in the Dido and Simon series is as kooky as any Aiken has written, but alas has the feeling of being quickly dashed off in between other obligations and written simply for the sake of adding to the series without much thought put into it. The earlier volumes were much more intricate and lovingly constructed, but for some time now Aiken's work has descended into the merely nutty - still fun, but lacking the craftsmanship of her earlier work. Children will still enjoy it, and I myself chuckled at the end even though I found it came too soon and was wrapped up way too neatly and quickly.
