Explores the lives of four women in smalltown Michigan during WWII. The unlikely quartet of heroines a mouthy Italian, a farm girl desperate to go to college, a spinster schoolteacher who's inherited a fortune, and a bored housewife meet and become fast friends when they take Rosie the Riveter jobs at a local factory.
Not my favorite Lynn Austin novel.
The story is entertaining and heartwarming, but I felt moved way to quickly in the end. Still an enjoyable read.

A lovely story of four very different women who become a supportive group of friends when the are placed on the same crew in a shipyard during World War II. I loved their different stories and their search for more meaningful lives. It is Christian fiction, but unlike some in that genre it is a skillfully told story as well, one that made me care deeply for the women and their families.

This was a wonderful story of courage, fears, racism, sexism, and just plain life!
It is wonderful to read about my Mother's generation and see that they had such courage and problems just like my generation! They handled them so well.........and came through very strong!
This is a "must read" for all Baby Boomers and their children!

A good historical novel of the U.S.. Four women from different backgrounds come together as a crew in a shipyard during WWII. Austin fleshes out the characters well. This is the first book of hers I've read. I will read more.
