Beautiful book. Second edition 2001.
This is a great book on the history of the American West. Women followed men to get or to keep husbands. Sometimes to keep their families together. Most of the time men had all the rights and women few, except to clean, cook, housekeep and bear children and raise them. Men had most of the fun , but some women were emancipated and helped settled the West. This book is true and is based on many diaries of folks who settled the west.

This book is the award winning Frederick Turner award, awarded by the prestigious Organization of American Historians.
