This the best and most comprehensive review of the peace settlement with Germany after World War I that I have read. Yet I think anyone can understand it. This book names and describes the many actors involved the Versailles Treaty following World War I. One point which must be considered when reading this book is that previously there had not been a war in which so many nations across the world were involved so there was no precedent for the Versailles treaty. Also, no one can see the future and what it will bring. When you end a world war you have many countries at the bargaining table and what you will have in the end will at best be a compromise. This book describes the personalities involved in the treaty, their education, background and the complexity of each countries expectations of the treaty. Considering all these factors, I am amazed at how well they worked together to get the finished treaty. The sequel to this book, Woodrow Wilson and The Great Betrayal will be posted soon. The two books are separate, but a set which describes this period in our history. This book also has a lot of cartoons that were in the newspapers during this time and they explain just by looking how their population felt about the war and peace process.

This is an excellent read.
