Set during the war in Viet Nam, the story of a rag-tag group attacking a hospital is especially in tune with today's reports from Iraq. I have read a number of books by DeMille, and this is the best.

Word of Honor is not only arguably DeMille's finest novel it may well be one of the best novels you'll ever read. It quite simply crawls into your gut, sticks to your ribs and stay with you whole as you digest the significance of its powerful message. And it's one hell of a read!
Ben Tyson is called to disclose the actions of his platoon twenty years after the Battle of Hue in a court of military law. Intermingled with flashbacks and back stories regarding a combat incident his unit handled during an extreme instant, a stressful moment about an 'event' between 'brothers'. The courtroom scenes in this book are quite simply brilliantly crafted.
Tyson is a tight, faceted personality possessing the wry sarcasm and humor and open intelligence that only DeMille can create. Lucky for us he doesn't shower this attention on just his main character since everyone has a compelling, vital story to tell.
How can those of us who weren't there understand such complex feeling? Yet, DeMille, makes us understand, he transports our souls with the written word unlike no other and quietly says....this was our reality.

DeMille is my favorite author and having spent a year in Vietnam this brought back both good and bad memories.

I made it to page 72 of this book back in 1986 before I penned the following review in the margin: "Nothing here remotely associated with any part of life in Vietnam relevant to more than perhaps a hundred people . . . ."

A great novel as expected from DeMille.
then this book is definitely for you. Don't expect humor but expect a ton of detail about experiences in Vietnam.
Overall, if you're into this type of genre, this is a great read. Yes, it's moving and suspenseful. I didn't like the pages and pages of detail that seem to be so popular amongst writers today believing that what they say in 10 pages could be written better using only 3 or 4. I also didn't care for different witnesses giving basically the same account but only slight details here and there that took up too many pages to get to the point of bringing in more witnesses.
I gave it 3 1/2 stars.

Very good a little slow at first and a couple of slow areas, however once into book it is excellent. Lots of twists and turns. A good read for DeMille fans,
You can't miss with one of Nelson DeMille's books and this one is a great read! I love the characters and the depth each has and how the story weaves along them and tangles up. A great read.

If you lived through Vietnam, you should read this book! This is one of the best books I have read. Beside the fact that Nelson Demille is one of my favoriet writers, this one captures so much of that era and how it affects today those who fought there.
