It is that which is here told us by St. Peter, in the Words I have now read unto you; namely, That when God raifed up cur Lord Jefiis on the Third Day, and jhcwed him to be alive, he didnot flww him to all the People, but only to chofen Witnejj'es appointed 'by G o Jd for that Purpofe. It is certain that ChrijTs RcfurrecJion is the great fundamental Article of Chrijlia- nity. Our whole Religion ftands or falls with it. If Chrift be not rifen, then is onr Preaching vain, and your Faith is alfo vain, as St. Paul tells us. And therefore this Point, above all others, ought to have fuch a Proof and Atteftation, as is clear, and full, and convincing, and liable to no Exception or Evafion; forafmuch as whatever fhakes the Credit of this, fhakes the Credit of our whole Religion. Now we Chriftians do fay, and we have the greateft Reafon in the World to fay it, That we have as good Proof of Refurredion as any Man can reafon- reafonably defire.
