Wow. I am sitting here blinking right now. Maybe I am over reacting. And I dont want to be supicious, but I cant help but be..

I have a BOB from NOV thats still pending. I sent my book, its marked that the other parties was sent as well. No problem.

They messaged me the other day in all Caps, asking if the book had been recived and telling me to mark it as such.

Now, from my experience all caps is net yelling. But i kindly messaged back, I had not gotten thebook yet (or i would have marked it) and could we please be easy on the caps it hurt my eyes. (it is harder to read but i was hopeinf they didnt mean net yelling)

Today I get a reply back that says. So Get Glasses. Yes. So Get Glasses was the reply. All in Caps. Followed by Lets just mark the books recived, maybe the books will show up.

I dont like to be supicious that my book maybe wasnt sent after all. But my flag went up with that comment. It is possible both books got lost in transit. Not a huge deal I suppose. but with the All caps, the comment i take that is rude I dont know. I replied saying i did find the comment uncalled for, that from my knowledge all caps is considered yelling on the net, and that i would contact R&R to have the pending removed from my end, perhaps she should do the same?

Am I wrong or being PMSing over sensative?

My flag would go up as well!  I'm not a boxer so I wouldn't know how to proceed, but her response sounds abrasive and wrong.

It was rude and you did the right thing IMO I have had to have books removed for what ever reason from my old BOB cause they kept showing as pending when the new account page came up. Some were never recieved some I just didnt get a chance to mark before my sub ran out.

Sorry it was not me but I did't know that all caps was yelling on the Internet.  Some times my keyboard sticks & I don't notice it & don't want to type it again.  I hope everything turns out okay

Manny, were the books lost?  I was a boxer a year or two ago, marked the last box I sent mailed and it keeps showing up as unmailed and not receieved on my account.

why would they think you would mark something received that you hadn't received?  very odd IMHO!

well i got another reply. Not in caps, but no more friendly. i was told I was uncalled for making a big fuss over caps. Honest in my first reply I just asked that she take it easy on the caps, please it hurt my eyes. I was told her reason for caps was that her sister is deaf, and she had just sent an email to her. Ok...

And again I was told I was making a big fuss over caps..ect..

So..i replied in kind, and I hope i was not out of line.

I made no fuss. I simply asked easy on the caps. It was a friendly polite request.

at this point I dont see a need to contiune pming over the issue. I have contacted R&R to have the pending removed on my end. You will likely wish to do the same. Have a great day.

she has not marked her book recived yet.

I have not gotten mine so i havent marked mine. She wants to mark them recived. On BOB if you dont mark recived they sit on your BOB as pending.

Does typing in CAPs make a deaf person read better?

Really Katie, I think you handled it the correct way. I don't know what her problem is. And why would you mark it received if you didn't have it yet?

Yeah I kinda asked myself the same thing. How does Caps make a Deaf person read better? But I am not gonna question that to much I guess. Just shake my head. I have a cousin whos deaf, who can read regular type just fine via email.

Well I am glad to get some agreement here, lol making sure i did the right thing.

Now to wait for the pending to go away, lol

oh yes i knwo when i said wait i ment because I contacted R&R to take it off. And in my experience that can take a little bit sometimes. No worries. I have no intention of marking it recived when I didnt get the book.

I think all the fuss over the caps sidetracked the issue.      SOME (a majority)  online think Caps are yelling.  Others DO NOT!    And no I'm not yelling, I am emphaizing.

No one should ever ask you to mark books recieved unless they are received!  Period!

perhaps her sister uses one of those TTY phone lines or something and she has to type in caps?  I don't know, just trying to make sense of it.  Either way, she's rude.

Gee, I would love to know if there is some special line that requires all caps for deaf people or if that is really as wacky as it seems!  I don't know anything about the TTY lines either.

It was rude in any case and the answers are right on about not marking it received, of course.

I'm thinking (s)he was being snide over the deaf thing too, since you pointed out that all caps is virtual yelling (and you are absolutely correct about that by the way--I've been active on the internet going on 20 years now and there are many message boards that will ban you if you continually "shout" all your messages).  There is a tendency by many people to shout at deaf people, which of course is completely useless unless they aren't truly deaf but only marginally deaf (aka "hard of hearing")...

Sorry you ran into a snotty one.  :(  I've read about abusive users, but thankfully they seem to be few and far between.  If this person persists, I would pass on the entire exchange to the site powers and let them know about it....

I had a friend who had lost the sight in one eye and it was easier for him to read things if they were in all caps. And I have heard that from others also, in fact I have gone into chat rooms where they type all in caps because one of their members has a problem seeing smaller letters.

As for the not receiving the books, I would never mark something received if I didn't have it in my hands.

Here's my 2 cents.

I have been using the internet and email (daily I might add) since 1987, before there was any WWW, and all caps has always implied emphasis and yelling. So you could consider me fairly experience about "netiquette".

Second, if someone is pressuring you to mark something as received, that you didn't receive, that just sounds fishy to me.

Third, some people don't mean to be rude, they just weren't taught any better by their parents.

Its not just nettiquette all caps in BOOKS means yelling. Am I the only one that ran across that in like 2nd grade? I very clearely remember playing popcorn in Mrs Martins class and when it was my turn to read there was a line in all caps. I asked Mrs Martin why and she said it meant the person was yelling so when I read that part I yelled it.
