Excellent, thoughtful book with a believable end of civilization story. The characters behave in plausable fashion and the challanges are based in reality. No deus ex mechana here, just a solid plot and outstanding characterizations. NB - this book was originally published in 1965 as "The Ragged Edge" a title that suits it much better than the current one.

This was a very good EOW (End of the World). A new book called The Road is very similar to this book. I liked this much more.

Nice post-apocalypse novel, a little dated in spots, but really good imagery. Not as hopeful or as bleak as some of the others I've read, it sets sort of a middle ground. I liked the different characters that Cotter runs across, the journey itself, and I thought the ending was just right. And no cannibals (I hate reading about cannibals in this genre, and it seems so common).
