I received a book today, and overall it is in good condition.  However, it looks like whoever had the book before me let their child write their name upside down in the middle of the cover of the book.  In black sharpie, 1 1/2 inches high.   I checked the help docs, and it doesn't say anything specific about writing on the cover, but....

I don't care, but like most members, I do intend to repost the book when I finish it.  If the book came to you with writing on the cover, would you mark it RWAP?  Would you repost it?

I would not RWAP it because as you said there is nothing in the postability rules that say writing on the cover is not allowed.

Unless it was pretty minor looking, I myself would not repost it unless there was a gazillion wishers on it and then I'd probably offer it in one of the Wish List threads to let the person getting it know. I have other outlets to donate books and don't need the credits so I only post books in better condition.

I'd repost it, but I'd PM anybody who requested it before I mailed it to see if they'd mind.

Thanks for the input, everyone!  I'm not going to mark it RWAP, and just pm whoever orders it.  :)

I'm glad you asked the question, as I have a children's book which appears unread...but has pen scribble on the back cover. :-)

These things sort of fall under the umbrella that allows bookcrossing & ex-library books to have reminder, stamps and stickers all over them. It also ok to have a name written on the side edgesof the book, some used bookstores make big Xs or such to indicate the book has been thru their store already. All kinds of things are legitimate under that umbrella, so I think both your books fall under it too.
