I'm looking for a website, or book, which presents a series of writing exercises, starters, or 'yeasts', to short writing projects. I have one bookmarked, it does both writing and photgraphy assignments, but the photgraphy assignments seem to be based on photoshop, and, likewise, the writing assignments based on satire, which is not something I write very well. I'm just looking for something to spend a little time on each one, things like, 'write a story that starts with this sentence', 'write a story about this character', 'write a story about this picture', things like that. Can anyone recoment such a website or maybe book? I also like journals which have a question or quotation on each page to give you a jump start to a journal entry. I don't usually use such journals in order, what I do is flip through it whenever I want to use it, and find a page that speaks to me, and make a journal entry on that page. I have an 'elfen' journal like that, with a picture of an elf and a quotation on every 4rth page (giving me four pages to make my journal entry) that I have enjoyed very much.

Thank you

I just ran across this thread; I hope you see this. I highly recommend The Writer's Toolbox, by Jamie Cat Callan.  I picked it up on a whim in a clearance bin at a bookstore years ago, and was so happy I did. I also emailed the author to tell her how much I enjoyed it, and she very graciously emailed back.

I just downloaded a book called Bird By Bird on iBook, and just the first few pages broke my writers block and sent me into a memories writing frenzy. The book is amazing.
