TG's please weigh in ...

After being on here this long ... this is the first time this has happened to me. I received the wrong book. This is a book that I've been waiting on the WL for for nearly 2 years, give or take.

I know I need to mark it RWAP (wrong book blah blah blah) but I am going to be VERY upset if I have to start this WL wait again so once I mark it RWAP and ask for my credit back (the book I received is actually part of the series but I already have it) how do I get back to No. 1? Contact TPTB and make sure I'm reinstated? Or will marking it RWAP/Wrong book auto put me back to the first spot?

You don't makr it received at all.  HOw can you when you haven't received the book.  The RWP wrong book received is for when you order large print and get regular or order a hardcover and get paperback.  If you received a completely different book then you don't mark anything.

From the section on receiving a book you didn't request-the beginnig is how to figure who may have sent it but you know that already: It then goes on to tell you how to mark it received if the correct book comes after the lost date.

  • If there is a book that is listed there as coming from the same state, click on the transaction and send a Personal Message to that sender asking if she sent you this book by mistake.
    • If she did,
      • she can offer you credit or postage to send the book to the proper requestor.  The sender can provide the address in a Personal Message.
      • If this book was sent to you in place of a book you requested, then when you get the book you requested,  you can mark it received:
    •

From the help docs:

  • If you received a book you did not request (not just the wrong version of a book you DID request but a title you do not recognize), you should NOT mark the book received - you should PM the sender as described in I received a book I didn't request!.
    • this may have been a mixed-up request and can be easily rectified.

If you write to the sender, she may be able to send you the book still.  She may have just grabbed the wrong one off her shelf.  If she can, then you would mark that book received when it arrives.  If it goes lost first, you'll mark it received from your Transactions Archive.

If she doesn't have the right book to send you, then you'll get your credit back when the book goes "lost" -- 26 days after it was marked mailed.  The wrong book is your to keep or post.  If she wants it back, and you are willing to send it, she needs to reimburse you for the postage.

And again, as soon as the book goes lost, the book will be put back on your wish list, and you'll have your previous spot in line.  I would suggest putting it on wish list hold until you are sure that this same sender won't be sending you the book.  That way you won't be offered the book while you are still wondering if the other book is going to get there.  Once you are sure one way or the other, you can either delete it from your wish list, or take it off hold.

Definitely contact the sender. She may have posted the whole series and then got them mixed up when she was packages.   You can see if she will send addresses and postage cost to get them switched back if that's the case.

RWAP-wrong book is only used when you get a book with the same content, but wrong packaging (ie binder, ARC, different ISBN, not LP, etc).

That's right! I'm not supposted to mark it received . Duh! lol Like I said, first time for this ..... glad I posted here first. And with that answer, that's obviously how I retain my place. Thanks!

We are in contact and it looks like it'll be fine. I'm sending her this book back and she's sending me the actual one I ordered.
